MUCH improved chaser Mercury Morris delivered one of his best performances last Thursday night to clinch a berth in the division one final of the TGTOBA series at Tattersall’s Park in Hobart.

Mercury Morris has found a new lease on life since joining the Gary Fahey kennel and this latest effort was clearly his best.

He scampered over the 461 metres in a time of 26.08 which was many lengths better than his previous best of 26.24 recorded in a heat of the Mercury Silver Trophy last month.

Eagle Eye flew the lids from box five and led but Mercury Morris burrowed up underneath him and when they turned for home Mercury Morris burst clear and went on to defeat Eagle Eye by three lengths with Reg’s Big Girl a length away third.

The Mick Stringer-trained Buzzin returned to his best with a quality win in his heat.

Buzzin’ jumped with them from box four but he stepped on the accelerator to find the front and had enough in reserve to hold out High Choice and Fisherman.

Buzzin stopped the clock at 26.21 and can improve on that in the final.

The first four in each of the two heats progressed to this Thursday night’s final.

Samurai Kid made full use of the inside box to be on the bunny at the top turn and when he turned for home the Jillian Stamford-trained dog cut loose and hit the line six lengths clear of First Sargeant with Kialdu Grace a distant third.

He stopped the clock at 26.11 for the 461-metre trip which was the best of the five heat winners.

Pearl’s Show won her division two heat with a courageous effort to run down tear away leader Sonny’s Brindle.
