The final of the Middle Distance Championship over 600 metres at The TOTE Racing Centre in Launceston tonight promises to be an evenly contested event.

Last Monday night’s heats produced keen racing with the first four in each of the two heats making it through to tonight’s final.

Brighton trainer Brendan Pursell, a convert from harness racing, holds the key to the race with Cheetah Zorro and Side Com his two qualifiers.

Cheetah Zorro is bred to be a champion from the Bombastic Shiraz x Fallen Zorro Litter. Fallen Zorro was a champion winning distance events around Australia.

Side Com was beaten at his first try over 600m but has continued to improve.

The Robin Stocks trained Disney Bound was impressive winning her heat and only three hundreds of a second slower than Cheetah Zorro’s winning time.

Notorious slow beginner Din’s Chappy from the Mick Stringer kennel is capable of tipping them all out if he begins well and Buckle Up Myke trained at Ulverstone by Gary Johnson is one of the most improved greyhounds in the state.

The best bet on the card appears to be Select Breaker in race nine. Trained at Mangalore by Greyhound Adoption Program Manager Susan Gittus, he has been beaten at this track from very tough box draws in recent times but should relish drawing the coveted red box tonight.

The value runner is Bain’s Lane in race four. Trained at Perth by Richard Post, he has shown pace at his two Devonport starts and is trained here and looks a likely improver.
