PROMISING pup Millie Minor has had a habit of missing the start of late but at Tattersall’s Park in Hobart last night (Thursday) she was on her best behaviour to take out the Young Star Classic final over 461 metres.
Millie Minor flew the lids from box eight and quickly established a three-length break on her rivals.
The Mick Stringer-trained bitch extended her lead at every turn and in the home straight she maintained her margin to go on and hit the line 4-1/2 lengths clear of the odds-on favourite Zorro’s Legacy with the winner’s litter brother Pack And Wrap from the Butch Deverell kennel almost four lengths away third.
It was Millie Minor’s third win from eight starts with the $4000 winner’s prize taking her career earnings to almost $8000.
“She did everything right tonight and when she does that she is always going to be very hard to beat,” Stringer said.
“When she first started racing she was beginning well but I became a bit bemused as to why she started missing the kick but I have no doubt that if her box manners improve and she is more consistent she will knock up winning races.”
“She started to get too excited before her races.”
“You could hear her banging and clanging in the boxes but tonight she was as quiet as a mouse and it made all the difference,” he said.
Millie Minor is owned and raced by her breeders Karlene Cuthbertson and Sally-Ann Wilson who continue to produce top litters with this latest offering by Where’s Pedro from Smart And Sassy producing multiple winners.
Cuthbertson and Wilson had five of the eight finalists as well as the two reserves so it is clear pups from litters they have bred are dominating the classics.
