Tasmanian Hall of Fame trainer Walter McShane set his sights on winning the Thousand Guineas with his well-bred filly Miss Choosey a long time ago and in Launceston last night the daughter of Choisir accomplished the mission.
Miss Choosey (Bulent Muhcu) powered home late along the rails to score an upset win at bolter’s odds over long odds-on favourite Gee Gees Top Notch ($1.20)
Miss Choosey (Choisir-Cumbria) was one of the rank outsiders of the field at $61 fixed odds with UBET and $40.60 on the pari-mutuel tote.
The filly was purchased for $21,000 at the 2012 Melbourne Premier weanling sale by McShane in partnership with his lifelong friend Keith Graver.
McShane said he had earmarked the Thousand Guineas as the filly’s first mission based initially on her breeding but then on what she was starting to show on the training rack and in her races this time in.
Muhcu gave Miss Choosey a gun run in the race settling her just off the speed on the rails and he only went around one horse in the home straight to secure victory.
Listen to what trainer Walter McShane had to say about Miss Choosey’s win and how she ended up at his sables at Broadmarsh.
