WELL bred three-year-old filly Miss Elsa caused an upset win in Launceston last Wednesday night according to punters but it came as no surprise to her trainer Terry Evans.
Miss Elsa showed her customary early speed but was unable to cross to the rails from her wide draw (9) so apprentice Rhonda Mangan allowed her charge to sit outside of the leader Hellova Street to the 600-metre mark.
She gave the filly more rein and she extended to lead clearly and despite racing no better than three-wide the trip she forged clear over the last 200 metres to easily defeat Hellova Street that was coming off an impressive all-the-way win in the Veolia 3YO Classic on Launceston Cup day.
Evans was ecstatic after the win admitting he was quietly confident she could turn the tables on Hellova Street after she finished seventh to that horse on Launceston Cup day.
He bought Miss Elsa at the Melbourne Inglis sale as a yearling and paid only $3500 for the daughter of CasinoPrince-WalvisBay.
