LIGHTLY raced six-year-old mare Miss Middleton emerged as a serious contender for the two feature mares’ races during the 2015 Betfair Tasmanian Summer Racing Carnival following her impressive first-up win in the Craig Hansen Memorial (BM82) over 1200 metres in Launceston last night.

Miss Middleton was having her first start in the state after a 12-month stint in the care of Bart and James Cummings.

The Barry Campbell-trained mare settled midfield with stable apprentice Ismail Toker aboard and she always looked to be travelling like the winner.

When Toker eased her out to make her charge turning for home she quickly collared the leaders and went on to score comfortably from the fast-finishing Hailed with Merrick’s Beauty a game third.

“She is a high class mare that will be aimed at the Bow Mistress (1200m) and Vamos Stakes (1400m) during the summer carnival,” Campbell said.

“The mare has raced in three states but she has only had 15 starts.”

“I am sure she will be up to whatever comes for the feature mares races,” he said.

Miss Middleton is owned by Barry and Enid Larter and their son David who manages the Woodlawn Park Stud syndicate.
