Brighton trainer Phil Mascall had a great night out at the Tasmanian Pacing Club’s meeting held at UBET Park on Monday night. Only racing a small team he won races with Origin Billy and the highly promising Origin Cronk.
Origin Billy ($6.70) led all the way in the Rassy Big Girl Pace for leading reinsman Gareth Rattray. Kicking away at the top of the straight Origin Billy never looked in danger of defeat scoring by 3/4 of a metre from Major System. Origin Cronk’s last start was a narrow defeat in the $20,000 Sweepstakes final behind Hillview Jake, when that two-year-old set a state record of 1:57.8. Origin Cronk has now recorded a win and three placings from five starts. In 2010 Mascall brought Arabella Lombo, a Perfect Art mare from Lombo Standardbreds, Origin Billy and Origin Cronk are her first two Tasmanian foals, she has also produced Raza Sharp Lombo (22 wins) and Lombo Krista Bella (3 wins).
Le Premiere ($4.70) put up a good performance to score narrowly in the Super Sid Pace, coming from a 30 metre handicap he defeated Gavrail by a half neck, with Tango Terrific in third place. Le Premiere covered the 2090 metres at a 2:00.9 rate from a standing start, very good time for a C4 pacer. The winner was well driven by his Brighton trainer Bradley Walters, and is a four-year-old black gelded son of Totally Truth and the only foal of the Lucky Camilla mare, Zed Camilla. Le Premiere has now had 39 starts for eight wins and nine placings.
New Norfolk trainer Ray Saltmarsh was unlucky to lose Blue Chip Harry, a winner of seven races, in a paddock accident recently. But on Monday night his three-year-old bay filly Sheas Delight, having her first race start, led all the way in the My Sir Duke Pace. Driven by Sam Rawnsley, she scored easily by four metres from Perfect Paige, covering the 2090 metres at a 2:05.7 rate. Shesa Delight is by Sir Vancelot from Tara Lassie, by Pacific Fella.
