VICTORIAN trainer Michael Moroney has been trying to win an AAMI Hobart Cup for many years and on Sunday he will be banking on his well-performed five-year-old Viking Hero to finally deliver the goods.
Viking Hero is a former Eclipse Stakes (Group 3) winner that has just started to regain form.
His last start second to Royal Mail over 2000 metres at Caulfield was the signal Moroney was looking for to ensure the gelding was shipped to Tasmania for the AAMI Hobart and Launceston Cups.
Viking Hero was ridden by champion jockey Damien Oliver who will partner the gelding on Sunday.
Moroney also nominated former overseas stayer Drunken Sailor for the race but opted to keep him home and pin the stable’s hopes on Viking Hero that is a son of Elvstroem from the Zabeel mare Gypsy Dollar.
Viking Hero arrived in Tasmania on Wednesday and was seen cantering around the Brighton training track this morning) Thursday) and looked in great shape.
