In Brief
- Wandary Muscat chasing back-to-back wins.
- In-form reinsman booked again for the drive.
There have been plenty of winners that have come out of the small country town of Lietinna, located just south of Scottsdale in recent weeks. Trainer Wesley Targett will be hoping the small country town’s good run can continue tonight when he takes Wandary Muscat to Hobart tonight to contest the final race on the card, the Rexel North Hobart Pace.
Wandary Muscat has won four races in a 34-start career, with two of those wins being since the American Ideal mare arrived in the state 11 months ago after being purchased by Targett. Both Tasmanian wins have been on the Hobart track.
“Todd Rattray found her for me, she was trained by Scott Hewitt who was James Rattray’s farrier,” said Targett who was working for Todd at the time.
Targett has since returned to the state’s north-east and is back playing a main role with the Kent Rattray stable where he originally started within the industry after gaining interest as a kid when his father played around with the odd horse or two.
Wandary Muscat won well at her most recent start last Friday where she came from well back in the field to score by 4.5 metres in 1m 59.6s for the mile trip after starting from the second-row.
“I was a little bit worried going into that race being over the mile with them going too hard up front and struggling to get into the race,” explained the trainer.
“I put her in the cart to do some light work, and there was plenty of energy there,” added Targett.
Wandary Muscat again has a second-row draw to overcome tonight and has been installed the $3.80 second favourite behind the Bianca Heenan trained Crackerjacksjudge at $3.50. Telmax Nikita who was runner up to Wandary Muscat last week is also in the market at $4.60.
“I haven’t had a good look at the field, but there are a couple in there that have been racing well for this grade,” said Targett who will leave the driving tactics up to in-form reinsman John Walters who drove four winners last weekend.
Tonight’s seven-race meeting kicks off at 17:49 with a competitive trotters event over 2090 metres.
Armchair Drive from the Marc Butler stable will be aiming to remain undefeated since arriving in the state at what will be his third appearance, with stablemate One Yankee Ginga and the Deborah Williams-trained Cold Crusher appearing to be the hardest beat.
There will be one trial held before tonight’s seven-race card which will be shown on Sky Racing 2 and TasracingTV.
