In Brief

  • My Magic Man a leading chance heading into the Launceston Cup heats.
  • Promising youngster Sherwood Boys makes the step up in class for the series.
  • Six heat winners plus the two fastest seconds make up the field for the final.

Front-running specialist My Magic is showcasing winning form in the pursuit of the Group 2 Ladbrokes Launceston Cup (515m) with six heats of the series set to be decided in Launceston on Monday night.

The brindle son of Superior Panama and Mrs. Waters is a leading in-form chaser at this track, having secured victories in three his last four starts, an impressive 29.59 effort in his most recent race.

During the performance last week, he recorded exceptionally fast splits of 5.09 and 17.36.

My Magic moves from box 6 towards the inside, drawing box 3 in the fourth Ladbrokes Launceston Cup heat. Installed as the $1.80 race favourite, he seeks his 21st career win for trainer Pat Ryan.

His winning involves taking the lead and ensuring he overtakes the two runners on his inside, with Pollinator Ken in box 1 and Wynburn Sonny in box 2 posing the threats in what promises to be a brilliant race.

Wynburn Sonny, trained by Ben Englund, recently achieved a career-best performance with a winning time of 29.76 in his last start here. He has also won 4 of his 8 starts at this distance and appears to be in form.

Promising youngster, Sherwood Boys, is stepping up in class in the Launceston Cup series.

His trainer, Ross Freeman, who is no stranger to success in the race, 12 months after owning Fast Minardi to victory in the final last year, lines the promising Hard Style Rico chaser after his flying win here last week.

The brindle chaser, with only 5 wins in 8 starts, recorded a brilliant 29.58 victory by 12 lengths.

Sherwood Boys occupies box 1 the sixth final heat of the Group 2 series, with punters placing him as the $2.30 race favourite over main rivals Red Stiletto from box 5 at $4 and Ashton from box 4 at $4.40.

Other notable contenders to follow the heats will be Is It Me, Ru Rebel, Browsing Ducati Roy Seaton, and Darryl’s Choice, chasing a berth into the $90,000 decider, with $60,000 awaiting the winner.

The six heat winners, along with the two fastest seconds, will go into the final on Monday night, February 3rd.

Greyhound racing in Launceston on Monday night begins at 19:06, with Brennan Ryan on track hosting all the action on Tasracing Live.
