TEAM Brunton ended the day on a high note when former Victorian mare My Thriller produced a barnstorming finish to edge out Gathering Gold in The Tank memorial BM68 handicap over 1400 metres at Tattersall’s Park in Hobart.

My Thriller was having her first start for David and Scott Brunton and she never let them down, coming from just beyond midfield at the 600-metre peg to outgun Gathering Gold that sprinted clear of her rivals at the top of the home straight.

My Thriller is by Artie Schiller from the Perugino mare Tickle My that won multiple Group and Listed races including an Eclipse Stakes, Lets Elope Stakes and a Sunline Stakes.

The four-year-old mare was sensationally backed in from $10 on on Tattsbet fixed odds to start $4.20, although she was always at around her starting price with parimutuel betting.

My Thriller has only been with the Bruntons since midway through last month as she was coming off a third at Traralgon in a field of six in a fillies’ and mares BM69 race over 1900 metres.

Her future is definitely over more ground and there were a few pundits who thought it (first-up assignment in Tassie) but Bruce gave her a perfect ride and delivered her at the right time to secure victory.

Surprisingly it was only Bruce’s third winner on the Hobart track since she began riding on a regular basis in Tasmania about 18 months ago.
