In Brief
- Mystic Journey nomination confirmed for All Star Mile defence.
- Thomas Lyons a definite lead-up race for star mare.
- Lady Lynette an option as first-up outing.
Star Tasmanian mare Mystic Journey was yesterday confirmed as a nominee for the 2020 All Star Mile to be run over 1600m at Caulfield in March.
Mystic Journey won the inaugural running of the $5 million event over 1600m at Flemington in March this year to confirm her status as Australia’s best three-year-old filly.
Her trainer Adam Trinder confirmed she is on track to defend her crown and he also confirmed the $100,000 weight-for-age Thomas Lyons Stakes to be run on the new track in Hobart in February (Hobart Cup day) would be one of her main lead-up races to the All Star Mile on March 14.
“Mystic Journey has been back in training for over a week and while it is very early stages I am very happy with how she spelled and we are looking forward to her next campaign that will more than likely culminate in the All-Star Mile at Caulfield,” Trinder said.
“I expect her to have two starts in Tasmania after which she will most likely head to Melbourne for one start before the All Star Mile.”
“She won the Lady Lynette last season before heading to the Thomas Lyons so that might end up being our preference, but it will depend how advanced she is in her preparation.”
With Mystic Journey likely to line up in the Thomas Lyons on Hobart Cup day, the Tasmanian Racing Club will have a great opportunity to cash in on the mare’s high profile that could lead to a bumper crowd on February 9.
