In-form stayer Neil’s Gold continued on his winning way with an emphatic victory in a benchmark 78 handicap over 2100 metres at the TOTE Racing Centre in Launceston last night.
Neil’s Gold has struck a purple patch of form but this latest win was one of his best.
Apprentice David Fisher had Neil’s Gold settled fourth on the rails trailing the leader and when the leaders left the rail turning for home the young rider urged his charge to the lead and he went on to score by over two lengths from Uboa and Veloce Cavallo.
The Angela Brakey-trained gelding was coming off an equally as impressive win in Hobart over 1600 metres.
Brakey said Neil’s Gold would most likely be aimed at one of the cups this preparation.
There are a few options for us but while he is racing well we will keep looking for suitable races and probably back here in Launceston now that he’s learned to win here again,” Brakey said.
While Neil’s Gold was impressive there also was a lot to like about the effort of the third-placed Veloce Cavallo.
Veloce Cavallo’s trainer Tammy Mollross confirmed the mare was to embark on a stud career and that she has been booked in to Wordsmith that stands at Paul and Elizabeth Geard’s Gee Gee Horse Stud at Broadmarsh.
