ESPSHLILUCKY LOMBO notched her second win in Tasmania when she powered home to defeat race favourite Maybe Doc in the C1 heat at Tattersall’s Park in Hobart on Sunday night.
The Victorian-owned and trained mare has been in Tasmania for about two months with this her third win from seven outings in the state.
Espshlilucky Lombo was driven by Scott Ford who has been looking after the mare while she has been in the state.
Ford had the four-year-old mare settled worse than midfield and waited until entering the back straight the last time before he called on his charge to improve.
She dug deep into a gale-force head wind and looked to be struggling a bit nearing the home turn.
But when Ford called on her for the supreme effort in the home straight she responded well and grabbed victory in the last few strides.
She defeated Maybe Doc by a head with Guerrero over six metres astern.
Espshlilucky Lombo (Northern Luck-Espeshlimade) began her career in Victoria and her connections thought enough of her to target the heats of the Australian Pacing Gold in which she finished fourth and fifth in her respective heats.
