The Minister for Racing Bryan Green today rejected any suggestions Tasmanian Summer Racing Carnival meetings at Tattersall’s Park were under threat because of the condition of the track.

“The course proper is being prepared and will be ready for Sunday’s Guineas meeting and the Hobart Cup,” Mr Green said.

Mr Green said he had been assured there was more than sufficient time for track workers to prepare the surface for this weekend.

“The month-long carnival will showcase our industry to local and national audiences and everyone is working to ensure the track is in top condition.

“The safety of jockeys and horses is paramount,” Mr Green said.

Mr Green said Sunday’s postponed meeting could not be run on the course proper today because it could not be prepared in time given the short notice and recent hot weather

The seven races will be rescheduled.
