THERE were no surprises when the nominations for this year’s state heats of the National Sprint and Distance Championships were released this week.
All of Tasmania’s proven sprint stars were there including Emerald Lee, Rewind, Bergermeister, Decembrist, Penny’s Angel, New Recruit, Rob Pines and Lika Whisper.
A couple of the state’s most promising youngsters also have been nominated with recent HGRC Breeders Classic winner Zorro’s Legacy and Millie Grace not surprising entries given their exposed form and good times in juvenile feature events.
The exciting Gatty Com from the Brendan Pursell kennel also is amongst the Sprint nominations .
There are enough entries to run either five or six heats if al sprint nominations accepted.
The Distance series has attracted 17 entries which is enough to run two heats with litter siblings Jethro, Beaudine and Bell haven the early favourites to represent the state in the National final.
The Hobart club will host the National Sprint and Distance Championships this year with the sprint to be run over 461 metres and the distance over 709m on August 25.
