NOT ANOTHER RED looks set to follow in the footsteps of his older brother Too Many Reds given the ease with which he dispensed with his rivals in the Finance Brokers of Tasmania 3YO Maiden Plate over 1100 metres.

The Charlie Goggin and Luella Meaburn-trained three-year-old colt was ridden positively by Stephen Maskiell to land in a forward position before the rider took the initiative and urged the colt to find the lead.

Once in front Maskiell had the son of Magic Albert travelling sweetly and turning for home he called on the colt to sprint and he left his rivals in his wake.

Not Another Red went on to defeat Sheza Fatty Boomba and first-starter Keukenhof.

His full brother Too Many Reds was a star juvenile in Tasmania before making his way to Queensland when he has won three open handicaps this season and last Saturday he was a close second in the $100,000 Lightning Handicap at Randwick, run in track record time.

Not Another Red is raced by a Prime Thoroughbreds syndicate managed by Prime’s managing director Joe O’Neill, who was excited about the colt’s prospects.

“I think this colt is a nicer type than Too Many Reds was at this age,” O’Neill said.

“He’s heading in the right direction physically and he also has a great temperament,” he said.

O’Neill picked Too Many reds from the paddock but so impressed was he with the horse that he eventually purchased his mother Red Centre.

“I bought the dam and she has been a wonderful producer because the foal in between Too Many reds and this colt is Faith’N’Courage that we expect to perform well again this season,” he said.

O’Neill doesn’t expect Not Another Red to spend a lot of his racing career in Tasmania.

“Not Another Red is probably too good to stay in Tasmania long term but there’s some nice races for him here this season.”

“We’ll look at the 3YO Cup in early December and then some of the feature races during the summer carnival,” he said.
