ABOUT three months ago Longford trainer John Blacker set his well-bred three-year-old Nuclear Hero for a 900m maiden at Spreyton on Devonport Cup day and the plan was realised when he powered home to win the Crowe Howrath 3YO Maiden today.
With stable apprentice Georgie Catania in the saddle, Nuclear Hero began well and settled fourth behind the favourite Goldnali.
The gelding was wayward on the home turn but when Catania straighten him for the run home he lengthened and went on to score comfortably from Islandinthestream and her stablemate Rusty Barrel .
The debut win was special for the owners as one of the syndicate members Jay Forsyth lost his life in a motor cycle accident on New Year’s Day.
Nuclear Hero is by Von Costa de Hero from for smart mare Nuclear Free.
