ONE of last season’s best three-year-olds O’Grady returned to racing in a blaze of glory when he scored an impressive victory in the Rosedale Stud Pace over 2090 metres at Tattersall’s Park in Hobart tonight (Sunday).
The Christian Salter-trained gelding looked certain to fill just a minor placing in the home straight when Emmas Hope (Nathan Ford) scooted well clear turning for home.
But under strong driving from Salter O’Grady dug deep and grabbed victory in the shadows of the post
It was the first time O’Grady has won first-up and Salter admitted he was pleasantly surprised by the win.
“I know he was favourite but when you look at his form he has always taken two or three runs before he finds winning form but he did it well tonight,” Salter said.
“He has grown a bit during the spell and he is still quite immature as a racehorse,” he said.
