GALLANT seven-year-old pacer Our Sir Jeckyl capped arguably his most consistent season by being named Tasmanian Harness Racing Horse of the Year at the official awards function at Country Club Tasmania in Launceston last Saturday night.

The Tony Petersen-trained gelding won the award from a host of chances in what was a season packed with outstanding performances from a number of the state’s star pacers.

Our Sir Jeckyl won a FFA early in the season before going on to win the Governor’s Cup, Cannonball Charge and Metropolitan Cup as well as the J D Watts Memorial Cup at Fairfield (NSW) early in his NSW campaign that is ongoing.

One of Our Sir Jeckyl’s part-owners Jamie Cockshutt was thrilled as the gelding also was named the state’s best performer in the four-year-old and older category.

Driller Mac was named the best three-year-old in the colts and geldings section while Tasmanian Oaks winner High Flyin Ruler was the state’s top 3YO filly.

The Zeke Slater-trained Queen Of Fire was a clear winner of the top mare award and she also polled well in the horse of the year award.

Gorse Bush was again named Broodmare of the year producing five individual winners that accrued 17 wins for the season.
