ONE of Tasmania’s best pacers Our Sir Jeckyl returned to the winner’s circle with a brilliant all-the-way win in the Governor’s Cup over 2579 metres at Tattersall’s Park in Hobart tonight.
It was the first time Our Sir Jeckyl had drawn a front line gate in almost 18 months and the seven-year-old gelding made the most of it.
With Ricky Duggan aboard, Our Sir Jeckyl used his early brilliance to find the front and he got away with a very pedestrian first half of the last mile.
The Tony Petersen-trained gelding looked to be under pressure leaving the back straight the last time when attacked for the lead by Sky Tower (three-wide) and Waiona.
But Duggan was only kidding to the attackers because when he released the reins Our Sir Jeckyl burst clear on straightening for home and went on to defeat Dance Of The Deity by almost six metres with Saab Quality a short half-head away third.
The winner clocked a mile rate of 2m.02.41sec and ran home his last half (800m) in a slick 56.16sec.
Our Sir Jeckyl’s part-owner Jamie Cockshutt was thrilled with the win and said: “It’s great to have the old boy back in winning form.”
