PAGAN MIDNIGHT has emerged as one of Tasmania’s most exciting sprinting prospects following two impressive wins at Tattersall’s Park in Hobart recently.

The Rodney Bragg-trained dog debuted with a third in a grade five Hobart on February 12 after copping interference at the start and midrace but he made amends with a breathtaking front-running exhibition at his subsequent outing in a maiden at the same track a week later.

He led throughout to win by over 11 lengths and clocked a time of 25.85 that prompted an offer from interstate to buy the well-bred pup by Lochinvar Marlow from Midnight Dreamer.

Last Thursday night he repeated the dose in a grade five event over 461 metres, scoring almost eight lengths and in a time of 25.83.

Both of his wins were in best of night times to suggest he should easily get through his lower grades.

“He is an exciting pup and that’s evident from what he’s shown at his past two starts but it remains to be seen how he’ll go around a two-turn track (Launceston),”Bragg said.

“We are hoping he can continue to improve so we’ll have to see what he can do on other tracks but one thing is for sure he has above average ability,” he said.
