LAUNCESTON-based harness trainer-breeder Brian Stanley knows what it’s like tom have a good horse in his midst with his former class act Turing considered one of the most capable pacers of his time.
But a two-year-old named Palmisano has the potential to be the best Stanley has ever hitched up.
Palmisano made it two wins from three starts when he toyed with his rivals in ka heat of the colts and geldings division of the Big Park Stud 2YO Sweepstakes at Tattersall’s Park in Hobart last night (Wednesday).
The gelded son of American Ideal-Lucyna faced the breeze for most of the race but when the gelding was given his head by driver Todd Rattray Palmisano forged clear and went on to win by 3-1/2 metres from Pachacuti with race leader Laconic Jamane hanging on for third almost six metres away and just in advance of Damitsam and Devendra.
Palmisano won on debut and was second at his only other outing behind Lickyalips in the $10,000 Golden Slipper in Launceston on Easter Sunday (April 8).
Despite the good form Palmisano was sent out the $3.30 second elect behind Laconic Jamane that lined up the $1.90 favourite given he went into the race unbeaten from two starts.
Stanley believes Palmisano is the real deal.
