LAUNCESTON greyhound trainer Doug Cassidy is adamant his in-form sprinter Paper Trail has a brighter future over more ground.
Paper Trail scored an impressive win in a strong grade five race over 515 metres at The TOTE Racing Centre in Launceston on Monday night.
The well bred bitch began well from box six to settle just off the pace and nearing the home turn she collared the leaders and went on to score by four lengths from Hellyeah Taz with almost a length to Sherrin’s Choice.
Paper Trail stopped the clock at 30.28s, which was nothing to write home about but good enough given where she was in the run.
“That’s the first time she’s jumped (out well) in her life.” Cassidy said.
“It was a good, strong win but she will be better over longer distances. She’s a stayer, not a sprinter,” he said.
The plan is to step her up to the middle distance of around 600 metres once she has won her way through the grades over the sprint distances at all three tracks (Devonport, Hobart and Launceston).
Paper Trail (Bombastic Shiraz-Smart And Sassy) has a way to go as she has won four races so far from 15 starts.
The bitch is owned by Karlene Cuthbertson and Sally Wilson.
