TALENTED trainer-horseman Ben Yole has a keen eye for a bargain and he proved it again at New Norfolk on Australia Day when one of his recent bargain purchases Parkmount Fella scored an impressive win in the Christine Butler Memorial Pace over 2160 metres.

Parkmount Fella was purchased by Yole for a modest $1500 and while this win was of a restricted race stake of $3800 he still managed to well and cover his outlay with first prize money of $2500 plus a $2000 Tasbred bonus attached to the race.

Parkmount Fella was given a gun run by the trainer’s younger brother Mark Yole who had the gelding settled behind the leaders until easing him off the fence to challenge leaving the back straight the last time.

He sped clear and had enough in reserve to stave off the late challenges from Verendus (Gareth Rattray) and first-starter Ive Got Oomph (Paul Williams).

It was Parkmount Fella’s third start for his new owner having finished second at his first try for Yole at Scottsdale followed by a near-last effort at Burnie in which he suffered interference.
