Pearl by an eyelash

PRETTY PEARL might lack a bit in size but she makes up for her miniature stature with a combination of speed and courage.

Pretty Pearl started a $12 chance in the Grating Tasmania grade five event over 461 metres and was expected to struggle against the in-form Seductive Miss that took excellent form into the race and was starting from her preferred box eight.

Punters sent Seductive Miss out the $1.30 favourite while Pretty Pearl was on the third line of betting with Winklee Warrior (4) expected the offer the most opposition to the favourite at $4.80.

Pretty Pearl began well from box one and the Keith Nichols-trained bitch held sway by almost two lengths at the top turn with Seductive Miss making her way to the rail from her wide draw and in hot pursuit of the leader.

The favourite joined Pretty Pearl 80 metres out and looked set to win but Nichols’ bitch refused to wilt and she gained the judges nod by the narrowest of margins.

The Where’s Pedro pup has only notched two wins from seven starts but her good box manners and other attributes are bound to produce more wins.

Black Cheetah (Black Enforcer-Cheetah Fury) has had only eight starts for three wins and as many minor placings for about $5000 in stakes.
