Pendle Beri for Longford trainer David Crosswell looks a great chance to take out the Balmoral On York Juvenile (R2) at Devonport today.
This son of Mandagery Man has been a model of consistency, winning two and being placed in six of eleven lifetime starts.
At his second last run on the track he went within a half length to Hobart Breeder’s Classic winner Riley Diary in 26.14 and last week ran third to Sheldon Cooper in 25.90.
Hardest to beat would be Sundown Miss trained by Sonia Martin at Rosevale and Blue Tongue Boy having his first start on the track for Leith trainer Gary Johnson.
Blue Tongue Boy ran second to Pendle Beri at Hobart at his last start at Hobart in early July but is resuming from an illness.
Wata Smartie looks well placed in R5 for Russell Watts at Moorleah.
This son of Premier Fantasy has been racing over the longer distance but this sprint field is not over strong and he should be able to settle early and be too strong at the finish.
His main opposition will come from Jillaroo Belle and Cash Lyrics.
Denersur (R5) should continue on his winning way after a super win here last week clocking 25.72 which was the best of the day, while veteran Fisherman (R6) should be too strong again for his opposition off the coveted one alley.
Best Bets: R2 No 6 Pendle Beri, R4 No 6 Wata Smartie, R5 No 2 Denersur
Best E/W: R6 No 1 Fisherman, R7 No 1 Wynburn Diamond, R10 No 8 Pippi’s Gold.
