PERFECT Socks caused a boilover in the Easter Cup final in Hobart tonight when as a reserve she led all the way to score an impressive victory.
The Denise Fysh-trained bitch ran a luckless fifth in her heat and only qualified as a first reserve for the final.
But luck was on her side when kennel mates Little Spaniard and Super Joe Cool were scratched, paving for way for Perfect Socks and second reserve Big Zeus to gain a start.
Perfect Socks has been very consistent with this her eight win from only 19 starts and she also has amassed five minor placings.
She has great box manners and that has been her greatest asset.
This latest win was arguably her best as it was clearly the best field she has met in here relatively short racing career.
The heavily backed Sting ($9 into $1.80 before starting at $5.70) showed good early speed to challenge Perfect Socks for the lead but Fysh’s bitch had a handy advantage at the top turn and extended her lead in the home straight.
Perfect Sicks hit the line 4-1/2 lengths clear of Akka Boy with Uno Keysy only a nose astern.
“She is a terrific chaser and she deserved to win a decent race,” Fysh said.
“She has good box manners and getting a start from box one definitely put her in with a chance and she did the job well,” she said.
Perfect Socks stopped the clock at 26.19, which was clearly her best on the circuit with sensational splits of 5.15 and 11.16.
Akka Boy settled midfield and made his way through the field in style but he made little impact on the winner in the straight, while Uno Keysy and the favourite High Choice ran on well.
Sting capitulated about 50 metres out and those punters who loaded up would have been licking their wounds.
