PLAYER ONE has always shown his trainer Max Cowen that he has above average ability but the gelding hasn’t often shown it on race day.
But in Hobart yesterday (Sunday) the gelding finally put it all together to score an impressive win in a maiden-class one handicap (div 2) over 1600m.
With apprentice Rhonda Mangan aboard, Player One settled midfield but 800m out Mangan purposefully sent her charge around the field and had the front-running soon after.
Player One then ground out a professional win, refusing to wilt when challenges strongly in the home straight.
The gelding put the writing on the wall two starts prior when he finished third in a race over 2100 metres despite having never been better than three-wide throughout the race.
Cowen was delighted with the win and says there will hopefully be more just around the corner.
