THE old adage “good things come in small packages” definitely applies to four-year-old pacer Poker Storm.
While the Adrian Duggan-trained pacer is diminutive in stature he possesses loads of courage and determination – a combination his trainer believes will help him win more races.
At Tattersall’s Park in Hobart on Sunday night Poker Storm produced a barnstorming finish to score a game win in a C1 over 2090 metres.
It was the gelding’s first win from four starts this preparation but according to his trainer it won’t be the last.
Poker Storm was bred by Nathan Rockliff and is raced by him and friend Peter Webb.
“I have always had a keen interest in harness racing through my parents and when my Dad (Chris) had a stroke a while back I stepped into the breach,” Rockliff said.
“I took out a stable hand licence and I help Adrian out with my horse on race nights.”
“I think Poker Storm has a future because he is still relatively lightly raced and has a decent record so far.”
“Adrian (Duggan) places him well and if he improves, as Adrian thinks he will, then we might pick up a nice race over Christmas-New Year,” he said.
