Preparations for a campaign targeting the riches of the Victorian Spring Carnival continue for Mystic Journey in Devonport on Tuesday where she will step out in a trial over 1009 metres.
The Group 1 winning mare who turns five later in the week returned from a spell a fortnight ago with a soft hit-out over 800 metres on the synthetic track.
Tuesday’s trial will see Mystic Journey line-up against some familiar faces with her trainer Adam Trinder having three of the five acceptors for the second trial of the morning including Dothraki Princess who beat home her much better credentialled stablemate when they trialled on 14 July.
Trinder has picked out the Group 2 P.B Lawrence Stakes over 1400 metres at Caulfield on 15 August for her first-up assignment, a race she won by half a length in 2019.
That race is expected to be a steppingstone to the Group 1 Memsie Stakes, also at Caulfield on 29 August, where Ladbrokes currently have the star mare listed as the $4 favourite.
It will be a busy morning for Trinder who has 10 horses trialling through the session including Mystic Journey’s three-quarter sister Mystical Pursuit who is also likely to embark on an interstate campaign.
Tuesday’s trials will be live streamed on TasracingTV with the first trial of the morning scheduled for 10:30 and Mystic Journey lining up 15 minutes later.
