Preview – Hobart, Sunday 16 May UPDATED

16 / 05 / 2021 Article by: Matt Reid

It looks a great day of autumn racing in Hobart on Sunday but punters can ill-afford a sleep in with the first of nine races scheduled for 11:10.

There are two $50,000 races on the card, each attracting a field of only five acceptors. Turk Warrior has perhaps scared many of his rivals away by this stage of the season and he’ll start one of the shortest favourites you’ll see across any code this year in the 2YO Ella Bache Hobart Tasmanian Sires Produce. The Aviso Tas 3YO Autumn Classic appears a race in two between Algernon and First Accused and they’re incredibly hard to separate.

The National Apprentice Race Series is in town with race five on the program the dedicated points race, Tasmania represented by Ianish Luximon aboard Little Hot Missile.

The rail is in the +11m position on Sunday, last used in that spot on 24 January where a hot day resulted in a firm track and it was hard to make ground from off the speed. Given the weather forecast and recent Hobart tracks, I’d expect a soft 5 surface for Sunday.
