HOBBY trainer Cleone Hill is only a novice when it comes to training standardbreds but seven-year-old gelding Promising Demon proved she knows a bargain buy when she sees one.
In January Hill handed over a modest $1500 for the gelded son of Pacific Rocket-Paksa Punch that was bred by Fred and Pauline Barker.
In that time Promising Demon has won twice to more than cover his owner’s outlay.
Promising Demon is the only horse Hill has in work and in Launceston last Sunday night he gave a bold display of front running to register his second win for his owner-trainer.
The gelding showed fgood gate speed to lead and then staved off all challenges on his way to winning a strong C2 over 1680 metres.
It was a courageous performance from Promising Demon that was tested in the lead throughout the race but when driver Kate McLeod called on the gelding for the supreme effort in the home straight he responded magnificently and went on to win comfortably from Break Of Nite and Pretyboytoby.
