Moving Money to make a bold bid to win the Betfair Tasmanian Guineas over 1600m at The TOTE Racing Centre in Launceston tonight and the gelding’s co-trainer Leon Macdonald is supremely confident of success.
Moving Money is coming off an impressive win over 1250 metres at Morphetville Park in Adelaide where he destroyed his opposition in a $50,000 race.
But it was at his previous start when fifth after enduring a torrid run in the race that most astute pundits saw the gelding’s quality.
“Two starts back the horse was never on the rack but he kept trying and was only beaten three lengths and a bit and then he came out and won as he liked last start,” Macdonald said in Launceston today.
Moving Money has yet to be tried at 1600 metres but Macdonald is confident the gelding has what it takes to run out a strong mile.
The Betfair Tasmanian Guineas boasts a very strong field with another interstate invader Jarss Act considered a top winning chance by punters who have backed him at fixed odds in from $8 to $5.50 with Betasport.
The George Blacker-trained filly Anelene remains the favourite on fixed odds markets at $3.20 after as much as $4 was bet with the Barry Campbell-trained Bionic Star the other top local hope but he has been a drifter in the market out from $4 to $4.40 but primarily because of the weight of money for Jarss Act and Anelene.
There has been slid and constant support for Moving Money that is now steady at $4.40 and equal second-favourite with Bionic Star.
