In Brief

  • Leica Prayer a class runner on Monday night's program.
  • Talented chaser must overcome drawing the pink.
  • Highland Chief one to watch in the first.

Box eight from the 515-metre start in Launceston has been described as “kryptonite” but it’s a draw Leica Prayer will need to overcome if she’s to secure victory on Monday night.

The hugely talented daughter of Dyna Double One will exit the pink in race seven of the night, her first appearance at the Launceston circuit since finishing down the track in a heat of the Launceston Cup back in February.

Trained by Jillian Stamford, Leica Prayer has returned from the COVID-19 enforced shutdown in terrific form, winning two of her three outings, while her overall record stands at 15 wins from 37 appearances.

And while finishing out of the money in Hobart last Thursday, the group race performed bitch looks poised to run a big race on Monday night.

Provided of course she can offset the box eight draw.

Installed the $2.3 favourite for the 3/4th grade assignment, the 15-time winner heads markets ahead of Anthony Bullock’s pairing of Devil’s Corner (box 4) and Tah Matt (box 7) at $3.3 apiece.

The kennelmates contested the same race in Devonport last Tuesday where Tah Matt led early before Devil’s Corner unleashed a huge run to storm away for a best of meeting 25.42 victory.

Tah Matt finished third.

Leica Prayer’s 10 Launceston outings has produced two wins and four minors with a best time of a slick 29.60, clearly the quickest run of tonight’s field.

And with a distinct class edge, the Launceston Chase runner-up and Group 1 Hobart Thousand third placegetter from last year looks all set to continue her terrific recent form.

Nine races are set down for decision on Monday night where plenty of intrigue surrounds debutant Highland Chief in race one on the program.

Trained by David Crosswell, the first starter hails from the Aston Dee Bee x She’s All Class litter which has big raps, and despite drawing box five, is one to keep an eye on.

Watch Leica Prayer winning in Devonport on 23 June.
