PROMISING four-year-old Put Mback made an impressive return to racing at Tattersall’s Park in Hobart today leading all the way to easily take out the Big Park Stud Mobile (C0) over 1609 metres.
Put Mback had not started for almost a year but he had obviously done plenty of work leading up to the event and he raced as he looked.
The four-year-old gelding showed plenty of courage to face the breeze for 600 metres before finding the front and he then staved off all challenges in the run to the line.
With the state’s leading reinsman Gareth Rattray aboard, Put Mback hit the line with a half-head to spare over Clyde Maguire with Imperial Majesty storming home for third just over a metre astern.
Put Mback showed a lot of promise last season but while spelling he broke the pedal bone in his off-side hind leg as a result of a freak mishap in his paddock.
The gelding’s owner-trainer and breeder Michael Laugher said it was a long healing process but the horse appears to be fully recovered, evidenced by his impressive first-up win.
