LAST season’s star two-year-old pacer Quastor Centurion is back on track for a tilt at more feature three-year-old races evidenced by his effortless win a C0 in Launceston last Sunday night.
The three-year-old gelding had no trouble in leading from the pole position and once in front he was rated superbly by driver Erin Hollaway who has partnered Quastor Centurion throughout his racing career.
Quastor Centurion’s next main mission is the Prince Of Pace in Hobart this Sunday night but his trainer Kent Rattray has his eyes on bigger targets.
The gelding won eight in succession last season before having his colours lowered by Winewomenandsong in the Premier’s Breeders Plate in Hobart and that preceded his last of 10 in a semi-final of the 2YO Breeders Crown at Tabcorp Park in which he suffered an injury that has taken connections a while to remedy.
He has won three of his five starts this time in and with Rattray confident the horse is on top of his game, the coming feature races should be well within his grasp.
“We’ll head to the Prince Of Pace next Sunday night and then we’ll get him ready for the Globe Derby Stakes and maybe the St Leger before he tackles the local heats of the 3YO Breeders Crown,” Rattray said.
“Depending on how he goes (in Breeders Crown heat) we’ll then have to decide whether to go back to Melbourne for the Breeders Crown semis,” he said.
Quastor Centurion is one of the best juveniles produced in Tasmania for many years and deserves his chance to match it with the best in the country in the Breeders Crown series.
Quastor Centurion has started only 15 times for 11 wins for $71,000 in stakes.
