STAR Tasmanian two-year-old pacer Quastor Centurion will head to Melbourne soon to tackle a semi-final of the Breeders Crown series after he notched his eighth win in Launceston on Sunday night.
Quastor Centurion is unbeaten from eight starts and even though the gelding could only manage a narrow winning margin (head) in the two-horse heat, his trainer Kent Rattray remained very upbeat about his stable star.
“My horse only does what he has to do to win and we must also remember that Karalta Wizard is a good horse and the times were good,” Rattray said.
The gelding led and clocked a mile rate for the 2200 metres of 2.00.5 and when Karalta Wizard peeled off his back to challenge the end result was never in doubt, despite the narrow winning margin.
Quastor Centurion is clearly Tasmania’s best male two-year-old and Rattray is confident he can make his presence felt in the Breeders Crown series.
He will line up in a semi-final at Tabcorp Park Melton on August 13 and if he does well in that race he will progress to the final at the same venue on August 22 which carries prize money of $310,000.
