FORMER star juvenile Quastor Centurion will tackle open company for the first time from mobile start on Sunday night when he steps out in the J Boag & Son Free For-All over 2200 metres at The TOTE Racing Centre in Launceston.
Quastor Centurion has managed to recapture his best form in recent months to win four of his past five starts including a sensational victory over the all conquering Beautide in the $30,000 Raider Stakes (4YO Sires Stakes) at Devonport.
Last start the Kent Rattray-trained gelding dispensed with a handy line-up of open class pacers in a stand-start handicap event in Hobart but Sunday night’s assignment is slightly tougher.
The four-year-old gelding has drawn gate two from where driver Ricky Duggan should be able to hunt him out and lead if he so desires, although the pole marker Saturday Nights also has good early speed and could have the pace to hold the front to the first turn.
Queen Of Fire has been in great form and her second two starts back in the Elite behind Beautide was good enough to suggest she will be a threat to Quastor Centurion on Sunday night.
