A roughie won the State Distance Final at Albion Park on Thursday August 9, but the hot favourite won the Sprint Final.
Bruce Linnan’s TARLIE’S ANGEL was at double figures in the betting when she won her heat, and was again in winning the State Final.
It was her seventh win from only twenty two starts, but she is likely to start an outsider again in the National Final.
Her win over the 710 metres was very brave nevertheless.
She headed off the early leader Befitting and ran clear at the post a lap out.
She was strongly challenged firstly by Fashion Flyer, then late in the affair by the favourite and eventual second placegetter Finn’s Express, but easily held them to the line.
The great GLEN GALLON, already a Group One winner, posted his 21st win from 39 starts in winning the Queensland Sprint Final over the Albion Park 520 metres. But he certainly had to earn his trip to the Apple Isle. Second favourite Knocka Down, found the early lead and held Tony Brett’s champion until the home turn, when Glen Gallon railed through and looked set to score clearly.
A brave Knocka Down made a late surge and in the tightest of photos, Glen Gallon prevailed, with Hanson Senor third all the way.
The time was a smart 29.99, and the win took Glen Gallon’s stake earnings past the $450,000 mark. No stranger to travelling, nor big race pressure, Tony Brett will feel he has a genuine hope of giving Queensland back to back wins in a National Sprint Final, on the spacious Hobart circuit.
Late breaking news – both greyhounds are trialling tomorrow night at 6.30pm.!!
