PROMISING galloper Quirribilly Lodge made a brilliant return to racing today when he stormed home from last to win the Claude Neon Maiden over 1200 metres.
Quirribilly Lodge had three starts last preparation for as many minor placings but had not started since September last year.
With Brendon McCoull in the saddle, the four-year-old settled last from a wide barrier (11) while the well-backed Static React, Count My Blessings and Gee Gees Cool Gal made play up front.
Static React and Gee Gees Cool Gal slipped two lengths clear at the top of the home straight and looked set to fight it out but they had no answer to Quirribilly Lodge’s powerful finish.
Quirribilly Lodge is prepared by Chris Crook and Imogen Miller at Campania and they have always had a decent opinion of the son of Matsqui.
Listen to what Chris Crook had to say about the win.
