Greyhound racing is well and truly in the bloodlines of Brighton-based Adam Collis.

It is safe to say that the Griggs/Townsend legacy is intact as Adam continues the tradition, within just his first 12 months as a licensed trainer, he has successfully prepared 18 winners in Tasmania.

Having trained his first winner with Sure Danger, the success has built from there.

Adam trained two winners within last week in Hobart with Sea Sick and Franky Ferrari.

While it may be his name in the racebook, Adam is thankful for the valued support of his family, mum Michelle Collis and his dad Mick Collis, along with his brother Jye, friends, and a loyal group of owners.

“It’s been an amazing year,” Adam Collis stated as he reflected on his first 12 months.

Franky Ferrari delivers Adam Collis his 18th winner for the year in Hobart on 26 December.

“I purchased Franky Ferrari three weeks ago and he’s won his last two in a row for us.”

Franky Ferrari, the son of Feral Franky and Wynburn Lethal secured victory in Hobart last Thursday night in the Grade 5 340m event, right at the line, defeating Lightning Force with a time of 19.87 seconds.

A few days prior on Tuesday, Sea Sick achieved a 340-metre 4-length victory over Kranji.

“When I first got my license, I was talking to Ross Work. He asked me how many wins I was aiming for that year, and I said I’d be happy with just one or two. To have achieved 18 is a great thrill,” Adam said.

Out of 193 starters, Collis has trained 18 winners, placing in the top 30 of the trainers’ premiership.

As an aspiring trainer, Adam knows that success is achieved through hard work and dedication.

Adam is the great-grandson of Pearl and Brian Griggs and the grandson of Allan and Gayelene Townsend, he is very proud of following in his family’s tradition of greyhound racing, loving every minute of being a trainer.

“I’d love to get a pup and go through the process of breaking-in and training it up to race,” Adam said.

“That’s on the agenda. I currently have seven in the kennel, and everything is going smoothly.

Both Sea Sick and Franky Ferrari are both entered for Launceston on Monday night in respective races.
