WELL-BRED pup Real Good lived up to his name by scoring an impressive win on debut at Tattersall’s Park in Hobart last Thursday night.
The Rod Ransley-trained pup had shown ability in trials and was expected to deliver at his first outing but when he missed the start connections were sure he would have to settle for a minor placing at best.
But the son of Fabregas mustered speed and was racing outside of the favourite Wyatt’s Will at the 340-metre boxes and turning for home he gave the favourite the slip and shot clear.
He was starting to feel the pinch close to home but he had enough in hand to go on and defeat Wyatt’s Will by almost a length with Frosty’s Cable over a length away third.
Ransley said Real Good had shown enough in trials to suggest he will win his fair share of races.
“This dog has shown us first splits of 5.10 in Hobart so that’s going to allow him to definitely win through his lower grades,” Ransley said.
“But he hit the ground sixth tonight and that is out of character but he showed plenty of speed to be in the race and I thought it was a very creditable debut effort,” he said.
Real Good (Fabregas-Paua To Explode) is owned by Sydney accountant Sandro Bechini who likes to name his greyhounds after songs and while Real Good is not one (song) that is instantly recognisable another that he owns, Love Shack, is definitely a classic tune.
