A RECORD 35 nominations have been received for the Betfair Exchange Launceston Cup to be run over 2400 metes on February 24.
Of the 35 horses nominated 17 are from interstate with Chris Waller nominating Vilanova and his last-start Caulfield winner (2400m) Black Jag.
Also included is former star Western Australian three-year-old Ihtsahymn that won three Group races at three and last season he won at Group level. He is now in the care of Victorian trainer Patrick Payne.
Many of the local horses nominated will be relying on winning next Wednesday night’s Sydeston Night Cup (2100m) with the winner to earn ballot free entry into the Launceston Cup.
In form gelding Livermore will probably need to win it to secure his berth in the Launceston Cup as his rating is only 67 which sits him at equal 30th in the pecking order of the 35 nominated.
The weights for the race will be declared at 3pm on Monday with final acceptances next Friday at 9am.
However the barrier draw will not take place until Sunday week at The Tasmanian Turf Club’s Oaks Day meeting on February 21.
