Cadbury Tasmanian Derby Day produced record results across Australia with national TAB turnover topping $5M.
Punters nationwide invested $5.057M on the nine-race card at Tattersall’s Park which is up 47% on last year’s $3.439M.
While this is an outstanding result, it needs to be noted that the loss of the Caulfield and Kyneton meetings in Victoria had a significant impact.
Turnover on the Cadbury Tasmanian Derby itself was up 13% from $715k to $805k.
But the race that attracted the most attention was the weight-for-age Bow Mistress Trophy which was sponsored this year by Tasbreeders.
Turnover on the race was up $87% from $549k to $1.025M on last year, clearly vindicating the decision by the Tasmanian Racing Club to run the Bow Mistress last on the card.
The quality field of mares that contested the 2011 Bow Mistress Trophy will certainly not harm the prospects of the race being upgraded to Group 3 level in the near future.
