In Brief

  • Amy Cora short but likely sweet in the first race.
  • Some fo the state's best in the three heats.
  • Final to be run next Tuesday.

Three heats of the Reg & Aileen Ivory Memorial Classic (452m) highlight a nine race card of racing in Devonport today.

Restricted to Tasmanian bred sprinters only, some of the state’s best-credentialed greyhounds are set to line-up in today’s heats with everything pointing towards a ripping final next Tuesday afternoon.

The first heat, race four of the day, sees the Ted Medhurst-trained Fabulous Baroque the $2.20 favourite from his box one draw.

Boasting the impressive record of 12 wins from 23 starts, the son of Fabregas has missed a cheque just once in nine Devonport starts and he looks poised for another forward showing today.

Second favourite for today’s opening heat is track specialist Leica Prayer at $3.30 while talented sprinter Sprint Gordon has his supporters also from his box six draw at $4.40.

The second heat today sees Sonia Martin’s top flight sprinter Atley Quick step out for the first time in 2020, the son of Barcia Bale quoted a $2.60 chance to make his return to racing a winning one.

A mighty second to Hooked On Scotch in December’s Group 1 Ladbrokes Hobart Thousand Final, Atley Quick exits box three for today’s first-up assignment, taking on in-form sprinter Tah Matt (box 2), Launceston Cup placegetter Connected (box 6) and 2019 Launceston Cup winner Hello Rhonda.

Betting suggests Atley Quick’s biggest danger is rising star Tah Matt, the son of Fabregas a winner at 10 of his 19 appearances for trainer Anthony Bullock.

The third qualifier promises to be a terrific betting event as well with Ben Englund’s Wynburn Babe the $2.60 favourite – expected to lap up the reduced field conditions on offer today.

Powering home for two recent Hobart 461 metre wins, the daughter of Dyna Double One has won two of her three Devonport starts and with even luck in running today is expected to prove awfully hard to hold out.

Considered one of her main dangers is the in-form I’m A Dominator drawn in box eight, the Anthony Bullock-trained sprinter chasing a fourth successive win as he looks to continue his career best form.

Throw in classy chasers Buckle Up Azona (box 4) and Mr. Camacho (box 6) into the mix and today’s second Memorial heat promises to be a cracker.

Today’s Devonport card gets underway with excitement-machine Amy Cora starting a prohibitive $1.06 favourite for trainer Debbie Cannan over the 452m from box one.

The daughter of Barcia Bale, winner of the Hobart Maiden Thousand last month, made it five wins from seven starts last week at Hobart recording a sizzling 19.47 over the 340 metres.

From box one today up against just the four opponents, she’s expected to put up some serious time in winning, albeit at the tomato sauce quote for punters.
