IMPROVING greyhound Roc A Doodle broke through for his first win on the Launceston circuit when he powered home to take out the Boags Draft Stakes over 515 metres last night.
The fawn dog had been placed three times from only four previous tries on the circuit but last night he was able to stay clear of trouble at the first turn and had the race in his keeping a long way from home.
Roc A Doodle (Spiral Nikita-Flaming Awesome) is prepared at Moonah in the south of the state by Robert Hayes who only ever has a couple in his kennel at any one stage.
Roc A Doodle has been in great form of late with this his third win from his past five starts.
His win from box eight in Hobart last Tuesday encouraged punters to send him out the $2.50 favourite fro the same box last night and he never gave his backers cause for alarm.
He scored from Basil Drax and Fox Creek with Sheer Octane making up the first four.
Hayes plans to try the dog over longer distances and expects to star with a grade five over 580m at Devonport next Tuesday.
Roc A Doodle has had only 10 starts for three wins and four minor placings for $5000 in stakes.
