BRIGHTON trainer Gary White produced a potential maiden winner at the trials at Tattersall’s Park today (Tuesday) in the form of well bred two-year-old galloper Lord Ashfordly.
The Rock Of Gibraltar colt from the top-producing Grand Causeway mare Moonah Bells strolled to an impressive four-length win over Royal Rapture and Deux Foix in a 900-metre trial on a rain affected surface.
It was his first time on a grass track and his first trip to a race track which explained why he looked all at sea in the strange environment but he definitely knows how to gallop.
The colt was ridden by apprentice Bulent Muchu who allowed him to settle just off the pace but when he gave him more rein the son of Rock Of Gibraltar cruised to the front and won convincingly.
Lord Ashfordly has been given time to mature and his first trial impressed one of his part-owners Rohan Gudden.
