VICTORIAN based apprentice Talia Rodder made the most of a good book of rides at Tapeta Park in Devonport on Sunday buy snaring a treble on the nine-race card
All of her wins were aboard tenants of the Charlie Goggin-Luella Meaburn stable.
Rodder opened her account with a strong display aboard lightly raced filly Argentogris and followed up two races later with a clever ride aboard Talaq Downs that also gave former prominent owner David Yaxley his first win in Tasmania in over a year.
Wide Open Spaces gave Rodder her treble and when the six-year-old gelding powered home to score comfortably in the Wharf Hotel Handicap (Class 2) over 900 metres.
Rodder had to use all her strength and guile to get Argentogris to win in the very last bound and she produced a gem of a ride to win aboard Talaq Downs that came from beyond midfield to win the McWilkies Electrical Maiden/Class 1 Handicap over 1650m.
Meaburn was delighted with Talaq Downs’ win as it has been a long time coming from the four-year-old that showed so much promise early on.
Rodder’s ride on Wide Open Spaces was superb as she allowed the usual speed machine to settle off the speed behind the leaders Merits Respect and Taiyin that set a cracking tempo in front.
When Rodder eased Wide Open Spaces three-wide to challenge in the home straight the Statue Of Liberty gelding raced past the leaders 150 metres out and hit the line with a neck to spare over Merits Respect that fought on courageously over the concluding stages.
