The Launceston Pacing Club will host the two finals of the Tasbred 3YO Series on Sunday night at UBET Racing Centre Launceston.
The $30,000 final of the Roberts Celebrating 150 Years Globe Derby Stakes, looks like another easy win to the all-conquering Jerrys Jet, who has had twelve wins and two seconds from fourteen lifetime starts. Jerrys Jet’s only danger may be his stablemate Four Ex Dan, who has chased him home at his last two starts. Jerrys Jet will be driven by his trainer Rohan Hillier.
Barooga Minnie, shooting for her fifth win in a row, looks the testing material in the $30,000 6TY Bandbox Final. She will have most to fear from a number of rivals, as luck in running will play a big hand in the final result. Fawzia had no luck in her heat. She was last season’s top filly and won’t be far away. Other good chances are Sheas Delight, a fast-closing second to Barooga Minnie in her heat, Mavis Merle, Berri Damour and the other heat winner Ark Breeze, who has drawn the wide on the front line. Barooga Minnie will be driven by Erin Holloway who has piloted her in all her wins.
Perhaps the best bet of the night is Last Guy Standing in the Cleghorn Form Standardbreds Stakes. After good runs in the Raider Stakes series, he was run down in the straight by No Undies Sundie, at Hobart on seven June and looks well placed against a moderate field. Last Guy Standing is a four year old gelded son of Union Guy and Vanstand, a winning daughter of Time Stands Still, He is trained by Melissa Maine, and will be driven by the state’s leading reinsman Gareth Rattray.
The McKillop Insurance Brokers Stakes looks a match between the polemaker Last Flight In and the second row starter Chirac. Last Flight In has raced seven times since coming to the state for three wins and four placings, and the three year old filly will be driven by Tim Yole. Chirac finished second in the final of the Raider Stakes to Resurgent Spirit, and since then has won his next two starts in easy fashion. The four year old gelding will be driven by Wade Rattray and looks the only danger to Last Flight In.
